Ah, the ubiquitous Christmas blog post. We all have them. You know you do, don't deny it! I had quite the adventure over the holidays. I should be embarrassed about relating it, but the truth is, if it happened to anyone else, I would be the first to point and laugh, so I might as well share the fun.

I wasn't planning on going to my parent's house in Florida for the holidays, what with the new job and no money and all, but Mom was having none of that, so she booked me passage. I flew out on the 23rd and home on the 26th. Not the longest of vacations, but I was getting out of Dallas, so I didn't care.

Yeah, about that getting out of Dallas part... that almost didn't happen. See, every other time I have flown to visit my parents, the flight has been out of DFW. This is where that pesky having-two-airports thing is going to come into play. I make my way out to DFW, early in the morning, with my printed out confirmation. I stand in line and get up to the electronic check in thingy and it doesn't have my reservation. One of the Continental people comes up to me, takes the paper out of my hand and points out that "DAL" is Love Field and "DFW" is Dallas-Fort Worth. And my reservation said "DAL." Shit.

I grabbed my bags and headed out to the shuttle bus stop. I was pretty sure I could still make it to Love Field, but I wasn't happy. If I were one to be self-aware, I would say I was mad at myself for not double-checking the stupid reservation before I left for the airport. Anyway, I called my mummy and told her what was going on. She called Continental and changed my flights. Unfortunately, I didn't know that until I was about half-way to Love Field. I turned around and went back to DFW, but thinking about it now, I think I could have made it. I still had 30 mins before they closed check-in, so as long as the parking wasn't a huge mess, I would have been ok. But no matter now. I went back to DFW, checked in, found my gate and went to Starbucks. Whew. After that, the trip was pretty uneventful. I got to fly first class from Houston to Tampa, under the condition that I make up for the extra cost. Yay, free booze!

I had a good time with the 'rents. Nothing much happened. We hung around their new house and cleaned up a bit. They still haven't gotten everything unpacked and put away. The house is smaller than their last one, so it's a bit difficult to fit it all in. It's a beautiful house, though. And they both love living in Florida.

So, I have to get up at 4:30 to catch my flight out of Tampa. I was ready a bit early, so we headed off to the airport. Boy, am I glad we had the extra time. Stupid airport screeners! I mean, what the hell am I going to do with a 2-inch penknife? Use the tweezers to pluck a terrorist's eyebrows?? I had left it on my key ring and they missed it in Dallas. The guy that pulled my keys out of my bag was a dickhead, too. He was immediately snotty with me. I asked about mailing it to me and he said "you can mail it to yourself." I had to go back to the main terminal, and hunt down an envelope and stamps. Neither of which are carried by the newsstand the stupid TSA guy sent me to. I had to run all over the place. And then I had to get cash for the stamp machine. All this before coffee!! I finally got it all together and went back to the satellite terminal. They let me cut in line at security and I went to Starbucks again. They were already boarding the plane when I got to the gate. Man, I was hacked at this point. But oh well. I made it home. There is actually a little bit more to the story, but I have to get back to work.
